Farm Fresh Free Range Brown EGGS – Hand Gathered from Natural Multi-Grain Fed Nesting Hens

My name is Calvan Parker, the owner of Calvan’s Feathered Friends. The song “I’m From the Country” fits me well. Fresh clean air, starry skies, nature music, fishing, hunting, hard work, friends and family are the roots of my existence.

I believe each individual has an obligation to save our planet. My business is saving the earth, ONE EGG AT A TIME!!!

How this? I RECYCLED an old horse trailer to use as a chicken tractor. I RECYCLED old school lockers, once destined for the dump, as nesting boxes. The local café, I-40 Travel Plaza, saves me their unusable lettuce leaves, tomato tops, cabbage, bread, carrots and egg shells. I save about 400 lbs a month from the landfill. My chickens eat bugs and graze on herbicide and pesticide free pastures. I raise mealworms in the cellar so the chickens will have a natural protein in the winter months. I use DE, garlic, and herbs for parasite control. I am attaching a guttering system to the trailer to catch rainwater in barrels for watering my chickens.

I purchased my chickens in November 2008. One little chick, whom I have named IMA…..Ima Layer, follows me everywhere. She has grown and is now laying eggs. She is absolutely a bug chasin, worm pullin, all grain eatin, pure country chicken laying a farm fresh, free range, BROWN EGG.

I live north of a small rural town, Cromwell, close to the North Canadian River. I attend Strother High School, where I participate in many activities, including FFA.

The saying, “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT,” applies to my hens. My hens are free of antibiotics, added growth hormones, animal by-products, herbicides, and pesticides. They feed on grass and bugs on a Certified Naturally Grown pastureland. Drinking water is from a spring fed well or captured rainwater.

My chickens are fed an all grain diet supplemented with vegetables and eggshells saved from a local cafe. My program is designed to save unneeded items from the landfill. I do add Fertrell organic poultry nutri-balancer to their feed. I also raise mealworms to supplement their protein requirements in the winter months. I have remodeled an old horse trailer with a screen floor, so it can fertilize as it rotates through the pasture. I will be attaching a guttering system to the trailer to collect rainwater into barrels to reuse the water for the Ima Layer and her friends.

My adventure…My dream….My business isn’t just about an EGG! It’s about each of us making a difference on our planet. I have had the opportunity to raise a high quality, nutritious EGG for my friends and family. All the while I am learning valuable lessons in finding creative ways to recycle and reuse existing items.
